About the Author

Psychiatrist
and author Sharon Romm, M.D. is a nationally-known therapist
specializing in the matters of the heart. She is breaking new ground in
the psychotherapy of couples and older adults.
After earning an M.D. from Boston University, Dr. Romm specialized as a
plastic surgeon, practicing at Georgetown University. She then decided
to focus on other aspects of patients’ need to feel better about
themselves. She trained in psychiatry at Harvard and now is on the
faculty of the University of Washington. Over her career, Dr. Romm has
received numerous awards for teaching and medical practice.
Dr. Romm is the former editor of Medical Heritage, author of
The Changing Face of Beauty (Mosby, 1991), and The Unwelcome
Intruder: Freud’s Struggle with Cancer (Praeger, 1983).
She has also contributed a dozen chapters to books and edited six
collaborative books, and published over 100 articles in professional
journals and popular press, including Vogue and The Washington
Post.
Dr. Romm brings years of experience helping people create successful
relationships, teaching and leading groups, and showing compassion for
the loneliness of others. She believes in her subject: Being over 50
