Praised as “a must-read” (Newt Gingrich), “rigorous and persuasive” (Deepak
Chopra), “a landmark book” (Dr. Drew Pinsky), “profoundly important” (Dr.
Joyce Brothers) and “one of the most revolutionary books I have ever
read” (Dr. Albert Ellis), Teen 2.0 challenges all conventional
wisdom about teenagers from top to bottom.
Epstein argues that the current American model of adolescence is deeply
flawed, and that connecting teens with responsible adults and guiding them
rapidly into the adult world is the key to ending teen turmoil.
Adolescence is a
recent cultural invention that deprives teenagers of real responsibility,
isolates them from positive adult role models and traps them in the
media-controlled world of teen culture. The result: broken families and the
most disturbed young people in the world. Citing
extensive cross-cultural and historical examples, Teen 2.0
demonstrates that societies that maintain continuity between young people
and adults have no teen problems: no depression, suicide, drug use or
conflict with parents. Teen problems in our culture are caused by two
factors: Teens are almost completely isolated from adults, and they are
treated like young children no matter how mature, capable or smart they are.
Teen 2.0 presents a comprehensive program for ending teenage
dysfunction, including a 14-point guide for parents called “Finding the
Inner Adult in Your Teen.” Provocative, insightful and persuasive, Teen 2.0
is a essential book for every parent, educator and citizen who is
concerned about America’s youth.
